Do not miss a date just because of language. Foreigner are not shy people normally and they will push themselves to speak very slowly and very clearly so you should not worry. If you try your best, your date will do the same and everything will be ok. Again, do not be shy, just try your best.

Let’s make it easier for you. The best way to speak french is to use the friendly way because we use polite speaking with important meeting or with older people. In your case, you are dating someone so it is better to be friendly. If you use the friendly speaking, it will even look very charming to french people.

Tips #1:The first thing you should remember is as a Japanese, the letter “R” and “L” is difficult to pronounce. But, it does not mean that you should not try. The letter “R” must be pronounce like the english word “RAT” (the animal) and should not be pronounce “L”. “R” is not “L”. If you can remember this, it will be easier for you.
コツ#1 : 日本人としてあなたが覚えておく最初のことは、「R」と「L」の発音が難しいということです。でも、難しいということがあなたがトライしない理由にはなりませんよ！「R」は英語の言葉で言う「RAT」（ネズミ）であり、「L」と発音されるべきではありません。「R」と「L」は違うのです。もし違うという事実を覚えておけば、フランス語はあなたにとって少しカンタンなものになるでしょう。
Tip #2: French people tend to finish a word or a sentence and going up with the tone. Example: Bonjour >> the part “jour” finish with a higher tone. Normally Japanese speak by keeping the same tone but in french, we normally change the tone to little bit higher when we finish a word or a sentence.
Another example: Comment ca va. (Ogenki Desuka?) The word “va” finish with higher tone. It makes the whole sentence more interesting to listen.
コツ#2 : フランス人は喋り終わる時に、トーンを上げて終わらせる事が多いです。たとえば・・・ Bonjour (こんにちは) >> の “jour”の部分は “Bon”よりも高いトーンで締めくくります。一般的に日本語の場合は同じトーンのまま喋りますが、一般的にフランス語の場合は、喋り終わりの部分でちょっと高いトーンで終わるのです。
もう1つ例を紹介しましょう。 Comment ca va. (お元気ですか？)この言葉の場合、最後の”va”の部分は高いトーンで終わります。最後に高いトーンを意識することで、自分の発言を聞き手により興味を持たせる事が出来ます。

Do not be surprise if your date kiss you on the cheek. This is french culture to say hello or bye bye. We only do this for close people or friend but with stranger. You are in a date so it is kind of close relation.

Let’s say you got ready with your best outfit and you still have his/her picture in your mind from the website profile. Once you arrive, you realize the photo and the person doesn’t match at all and you want to go away. Or, during the “rendez-vous”, you realize that person doesn’t match your thinking and you simply want to go away. What can you say without making the person feeling bad ?
