Set in Tokyo just after World War 2, Lynnn Kutsukake’s debut novel, The Translation of Love, follows an American occupier, a newly repatriated Japanese-Canadian and a tenacious local girl all trying to piece their lives back together in a city reduced to rubble.

“It was a time full of turbulence, chaos, despair and hope”, Kutsukake says.
